How to Clean Different Parts of Your Shoes

Different parts of a shoe often need different cleaning approaches. The upper may require a gentler touch, while the sole usually benefits from firmer brushing around grooves and textured areas.
Before cleaning, remove loose dirt with a dry cloth or a few gentle brush strokes. This helps prevent surface debris from spreading when water or cleaning solution is added.
Use soft bristles on suitable shoe uppers and work with light, even strokes. Avoid excessive pressure, especially on delicate materials or surfaces with printed details. Always check the care instructions for the specific shoe before applying water or cleaning products.
For soles, firmer bristles can help work around grooves and raised textures. Focus on areas where dirt tends to collect, such as the edges, tread pattern, and spaces between the sole sections.
A long-handled, angled shoe brush can make the process more comfortable by helping you reach the sole without holding the shoe too close to your hands. After cleaning, rinse or wipe the brush according to its material and allow the shoes to dry according to the manufacturer’s care guidance.
